I had found a wonderful group of old "confetti" celluloid and thermoset buttons from the Deco era at an antique show in Santa Monica, CA. The buttons happened to match several vintage grosgrain ribbons I found at the next booth.
The colors of the components I chose were so reminiscent of with the bark cloth curtains of the 1930's with large images of tropical flowers, that I just had to make a floral venue in which the buttons could reside.
The base of the necklace is a 1 1/2" wide grosgrain ribbon with a picot edge. The ribbon worked flowers and leaves are made from the ribbons I found at the booth and a new green ribbon that was attached to a delicious box of Godiva chocolates. The additional embellishments include glass leaves, flowers, butterflies, and other beads.
The first bracelet " Violas and Peas" is made from a base of grosgrain ribbon. The individually stitched ribbon worked flowers, leaves and pea pods are made from a variety of ribbons including silk, grosgrain and French wire. Vintage buttons, stamens and beads have been added to embellish the vegetation and floral array.
The second bracelet "Figure Eight" is made from vintage and new glass leaves and fruit beads.
The layered earrings are made from buttons and molded glass cabochons. |
