I was influenced by scrap pieced quilts from an early age, I loved the thought of using what you had on hand the challenge that is presented. The inspiration for the fan shape came from an old pieced quilt that I had seen in museum.
I bought the hand dyed fabrics, and loved the idea of making pieced fans from this fabric and other cottons that I had been saving for the right project. The background fabric is a raw silk, that is machine quilted in metallic threads using a twin needle.
The fans are hand embroidered in metallic threads; hand embellished with glass beads; paper mâche and metal charms are also included; and of course a wonderful stash of vintage brass and glass buttons.
The jewelry ensemble worn with this is Mardi Gras in Venice. |
