This neckpiece started with a wonderful collection of found, gathered and recycled components. Many of these from nature including the central gourd which rests on a piece of driftwood and the tiny sea urchins which I gathered at the beach.
Additional gathered treasures include: a collection of vintage troca shell whistle buttons a gift from a friend; bronze charms from the Phoenix, the Nepenthe book store in Big Sur, CA; Mexican Day of the Dead animal shaped bells; jade beads and butterfly shaped charms; shell flower shaped rondelles and beads; and ra ku pottery buttons.
The base of the necklace is comprised of silk and rayon cords. I attached new and vintage glass, pearls, semi precious, and brown muscle shell beads to the base and around the other components using a free form peyote stitch. |
