One Saturday, many years ago, my friend Jeri took me to an estate sale held by one of her long time acquaintances who she had met at a Vintage Swap in Long Beach. I didn't have much money to spend, but I picked up a few goodies here and there. I fell in love with a shoe box full of vintage lace trims and sections of an old cotton summer dress trimmed in lace. I was unable to buy the box, but I was content with the lovely items I did buy.
The following weekend we got together for a play day, and we were going to make purses with our treasures found the previous weekend. Jeri had a surprise in store for me, she had bought the shoe box of my dreams and gave it to me as an early birthday present.
I still have that box, and I continue to fill it with treasures that I find here and there. Some of the pieces on this jacket are from that original gift. Another wonderful collection of lace came my way recently from my sister-in-laws mother's new husband's mother. She had loved lace as much as I do, and when she passed they gave me many boxes from her collection.
Pearl's Delight showcases many lovely vintage Mother of Pearl buttons that were a gift. The jackets is beaded with real fresh water pearls and glass pears from a necklace that had been my grandmother's. |
